Vina May Be Headed to Milwaukee
December 5, 1994
Infielder Fernando Vina, one of the more popular of the young New York Mets last season, may soon call Milwaukee home.
After Monday's Rule 5 draft, the Mets must be prepared Tuesday to give up two players, one to Houston for pitcher Pete Harnisch, and another to Milwaukee for pitcher Doug Henry. Additionally, they will get the final player from Cleveland in the trade that sent outfielder Jeromy Burnitz to the Indians.
The Brewers have roster complications at this juncture, but are expected to get Vina to complete the Henry trade.
"That's a safe guess," Mets general manager Joe McIlvaine said Monday night.
Vina can be moved because the Mets signed veteran infielder Bill Spiers, who was on waivers by the Brewers.
