Tigers Place Vina On DL

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers placed starting second baseman Fernando Vina on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a right hamstring injury.
The 35-year-old Vina, who signed with Detroit as a free agent in the offseason, is batting .226 with seven runs batted in, two stolen bases and 21 runs scored in 2004.
A two-time Gold Glove winner, Vina had spent the past four seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Detroit filled the roster spot by purchasing the contract of infielder Jason Smith from Triple-A Toledo. The club also transferred hurler Lino Urdaneta to the 60-day DL.
