Long Wait

Second baseman Fernando Vina said he is "very frustrated." That's understandable. Vina doesn't know when his legs will be healthy enough for him to end the disabled-list stay that has reached three weeks.
Vina spoke on a brief visit to the clubhouse. He couldn't stay longer because he was heading for an MRI exam on his right hamstring and sore left knee. He said the knee has become sore while trying to rehabilitate the hamstring in the opposite leg.
Vina was placed on the DL with a strain in the right hamstring. While with St. Louis last season, he missed three months because of a tear in the hamstring and subsequent surgery. Vina said he didn't believe surgery has slowed his healing now.
Omar Infante has stepped in impressively from his utility infielder's role to replace Vina. The measure of Infante's hitting success can be seen in his OPS. Infante, who has had the bulk of his at-bats this season since Vina was hurt, entered Tuesday with an OPS of .888. No second baseman who has played regularly throughout this season has an OPS that high.
Vina has been rehabbing the hamstring injury in Sacramento, Calif., with Al Biancani, the strength and conditioning coach of the NBA's Sacramento Kings. Vina lives about an hour from Sacramento. He returned to Detroit to have his injury re-evaluated.
